Transylvanian Caraway Soup

You need: (for 4 portions)
1 l (2 pints) strong fonds blanc
2 onions
2-3 tbsp caraway
cooking oil
3-4 slices white bread

Slice the onions and grind the caraway and cook alltogether in half a liter (a pint) of water for 10-15 minutes. Cut the bread into small cubes and fry them (on low heat) in the oil, until they are nicely brown.
Mix the onion-caraway blend into the fonds bland and cook it up once more. Serve the bread on a plate, to be put on top of the soup.

When I first heard about this dish, I could not imagine that it was edible... But I gave it a try and was positively surprised. Maybe it isn't the most exclusive dish, but if you are looking for something new to serve your friends, it does very well as a starter.

If you enjoyed it, please tell your friends.
