Giambologna

Harmony of the body

Giambologna was born as Jean (de) Boulogne, in Italy accordingly named Giovanni (da) Bologna, which later was shortened to Giambologna.
After studies in Antwerp, he visited Italy in order to study there, but he never returned.
He is best best known for his statuary in marble and bronze. His work is not as emotionally touched as other artists' of the Renaissance, but his figures show both elegance, beauty and excellent movement. It is no exaggeration to call him the most important sculptor of Mannerism.
