Rafael eller Raffaello Santi (6.4.1483 - 6.4.1520) föddes i Urbino, där han fick sin tidiga konstskolning av far Giovanni, som också var målare. Efter studier i Florens kallades han till Rom av påven Julius II, för att dekorera några rum i Vatikanen. Mest känd är förmodligen freskomålningen "Skolan i Aten" i Stanza della Segnatura.

Raphael or Raffaello Santi (April 6, 1483 - April 6, 1520) was born in Urbino and got his first education from his father Giovanni, who also was a painter. After studies in Florence, Raphael was called to Rome by Pope Julius II, where he was to decorate some rooms of the Vatican Palace. Most famous is probably the fresco "The School of Athens" in the Stanza della Segnatura.
